Kloster Kappel, Switzerland

            Kappel Abbey is a former Cistercian monastery located in Kappel am Albis in the Swiss canton of Zurich. It was first mentioned in 1185. The current church building was constructed between about 1255 and the early 14th century.

In 1527, during the Reformation, the monastery was abolished, and its property was taken over by the city of Zurich. It served a number of different secular purposes since then. Today, the complex serves as a hotel and retreat.
