Sac Spider 2

            This is the only species of spider that I know for a fact bit me. Many people point to spiders to blame for odd bites, when they never saw what actually did it, but - I was sitting on the floor and crossed my legs, when I felt a tiny sharp pinch. I unfolded my leg to find a poor crushed spider - it had bitten in self-defense, and who could blame it?? It was beyond help, and even then I felt bad for it. It did hurt, though, and I wondered what horrible effects would come from a spider bite.

… Nothing. The initial pain faded quickly, and didn’t even leave a mark. I guess I was lucky, as I’ve read that this species can produce a painful bite, and infection can occur later because, unusually, this species will feed on dead arthropods. Well, it WAS painful at first, but not even as bad as a wasp sting. And it didn’t attack me; it defended against a perceived threat. Of course not all species are like this, but, really, the majority of them don’t want anything to do with us.
