An immense white marble funerary mausoleum built between 1631 and 1648 in Agra on the orders of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan to perpetuate the memory of his favorite wife, the Taj Mahal, the most perfect jewel of Muslim art in India, is One of the universally admired masterpieces of the heritage of mankind.
