L’histoire d’un ratage - a photo on Flickriver

            L’île de Don-Khône (Laos) - Initialement j’avais archivé cette photo dans la catégorie « second choix ». Un classement destiné aux photos qui se tiennent techniquement et graphiquement, mais qui présentent des imperfections. Le troisième choix, c’est la poubelle. 
La première imperfection réside dans le cadre qui coupe un peu trop les cocotiers. Rien de rédhibitoire, mais j’aurais préféré que les arbres du bord-cadre droit, disposent d’un peu plus « d’air ». Mais le principal défaut vient de l’enfant qui est de dos, alors qu’il saute dans l’eau. 

Quand j’ai vu les enfants qui plongeaient de la pirogue, ils me faisaient face, mais j’étais à pied et trop loin. Je me suis approché et quand j’ai été à bonne distance, le petit garçon remontait dans l’embarcation. J’ai eu le temps de travailler mon image, plaçant correctement les cocotier dans ma composition. Je me suis alors concentré sur l’enfant et mon cadre a légèrement bougé. Le vrai problème c’est que le gamin a décidé de plonger de l’autre côté. J’ai attendu qu’il renouvelle l’opération, mais à trois reprises il a sauté en me tournant le dos. La lumière baissait très vite, alors j’ai renoncé.
J’analyse régulièrement pourquoi une photo n’est pas satisfaisante, mais je trouve intéressant de décrypter parfois publiquement les raisons d’un échec. Un retour d’expérience n’est jamais inutile.

The first imperfection lies in the frame which cuts the palm trees a little too much. Nothing too bad, but I would have liked the shafts on the right frame edge to have a bit more "air". But the main flaw comes from the child who is from behind as he jumps into the water.

When I saw the children diving from the canoe, they were facing me, but I was on foot and too far away. I approached and when I was a good distance away, the little boy climbed back into the boat. I had time to compose my image, correctly placing the palm trees in my composition. I then focused on the child and my frame shifted slightly. The real problem is that the kid decided to dive to the other side. I waited for him to repeat the operation, but three times he jumped with his back to me. The light was dimming very quickly, so I gave up.
I regularly analyze why a photo is not satisfactory, but I find it interesting to sometimes publicly decipher the reasons for a failure.
