Une récolte miracle grâce au compost

District de Farafangana (Madagascar) - Rien de plus compliqué que de filmer en vidéo et d’essayer de faire des photos en même temps. Autant dire qu’il est impossible de faire correctement les deux à la fois. J’étais là avant tout pour un clip documentaire. La photo est donc passée au second plan.

Cette scène essentielle pour le documentaire a été tournée dans un champ de manioc. Les agriculteurs ont arraché cette racine alimentaire pour montrer fièrement combien le compost enseigné par les techniciens de l’ONG Inter Aide, faisait des miracles. Avec la méthode traditionnelle, le manioc n’aurait pesé qu’un kilo et demi. Ce plant, lui, fait plus de 10 kilos. Cette quantité, permet à une famille composée de 9 à 10 personnes (taille moyenne d’unfoyer malgache) de se nourrir pendant une journée.

Après avoir déplanté le pied de manioc, les paysans se sont figés devant moi, pensant que la séquence était terminée. Il me fallait une sortie de champ. Je leur ai donc demandé de se remettre en mouvement et de sortir du cadre. Mais avant de filmer, j’ai eu le temps de prendre cette unique photo. Sur mon Fuji X Pro 2, la touche « fn » sert à activer la vidéo, alors que le déclencheur est dédié à la photo. Deux en un. Mais la scène dynamique était pour la vidéo. Pour avoir une photo moins figée, il aurait fallu que je leur demande de « rejouer » la scène. Je n’allais pas les embêter avec ça, d’autant qu’il commençait à pleuvoir et que la séquence vidéo me satisfaisait. Là était l’essentiel. Et moi, je commençais à être rincé dans tous les sens du terme.

A miracle harvest thanks to compost

Farafangana District (Madagascar) - Nothing is more complicated than filming video and trying to take photos at the same time. Suffice it to say that it is impossible to do both correctly. I was primarily there for a documentary clip, so the photo took second place.
This essential scene for the documentary was filmed in a cassava field. The farmers pulled out this food root to proudly show how the compost taught by technicians from the NGO Inter Aide worked miracles. With traditional technique, it would have weighed only one and a half kilos. This foot weighs more than 10 kilos. This quantity allows a family of 9 to 10 people (average size of a Malagasy family) to feed themselves for a day.
After uprooting this cassava plant, the farmers froze in front of me, thinking that the sequence was over. So I asked them to get moving again and get out of the frame. But before I started filming again, I had time to take this single photo. On my Fuji X Pro 2, the “fn” key is used to activate video, while the shutter button is dedicated to photos. Two in one. But the dynamic scene was for the video. To have a less frozen photo, I would have had to ask them to “replay” the scene. I wasn't going to bother them with that, especially since it was starting to rain seriously and the video footage satisfied me. That was the main thing.
