            Russia's first rural hydroelectric power station named after Vladimir Lenin is located on the Lama River in the village of Yaropolets, Volokolamsk urban district.
In 1918, peasants in the village of Yaropolets used a water mill as a generator to generate electricity. Other villagers asked to bring light to their houses too. Then a technical cooperative appeared and took the initiative to build a hydroelectric power station. Vladimir Lenin, after listening to the proposals, approved the project and helped with the equipment. In 1920, he visited Yaropolets to see how the station worked. Russia's first rural hydroelectric power station generated electricity until 1941, when it was blown up by the Nazis. In 1959, the station was revived, but only as a monument. Now on the Lenin dam you can see a beautiful semicircular spillway.
