The ghost town of Bodie, California--from my late fall 2016 trip to Death Valley and etc.

It was quite cold during my visit, which, if I had known anything about Bodie before arriving (which, other than being a ghost town, my knowledge was zero), it wouldn't have surprised me. The weather/climate here basically sucks. It averages 303 days per year where the thermometer drops to at least 32 F (0 C). That's worse then most places in Alaska or Ontario. No wonder people left after the mine output began to drop.

I'm not certain, but it seems from what I've read, that the brick structure was the only such building, once a morgue, ever constructed here.

The population peaked in the 1870's--somewhere between 5,000 and 8,000 souls.

It remains a great place to visit--but dress warmly!
