Squirrel Cuckoo (Piaya cayana)

Evidently these are widespread and common in Costa Rica, but we only saw this one, at Rincon de la Vieja in the grounds of our lodge. (Hacienda Gauchipelin). The lodge majored in "adventure" stuff - zip lines etc. Which was a pity as the bird life was exceptional, but they didn't have the infrastructure to make the most of it. We were told by another visitor about a regular Pootoo perched a half hour walk away as we waited for our bus to leave! Arrggg! A white board in reception and some helpful pointers could have made all the difference. Still a wonderful place and I was out with the camera from first to last light every day!
