Book of Nature. Hugo Wstinc (?-1349) and Honeybee, Apis mellifera, on Cosmos bipinnatus, Garden Cosmos, Cloister, Utrecht, The Netherlands

            A bit early for the defense of a Ph.D. candidate of his work on medieval texts about the world and sanctity, I whiled away the time in the Cloister next to the Academia building.
There's a pretty modern statuette there atop a fountain dedicated to a medieval legal scholar, one Hugo Wstinc (?-1349). He's writing an opinion or some such: see the feathered pen in his hand.
A medieval and early-modern way of putting Nature in a grander context is by the phrase 'The Book of Nature'. The idea behind that phrase is that Nature reveals the creative power of God parallelled by the Bible, the Book of Revelation, that reveals his saving grace.
In both 'books' there's an order: in Nature that of 'natural' movement (e.g. such as the 'order' of a calf embryo becoming a cow and not, say, a panther), in the Bible the order of well-formed grammar.
A specific example of 'order' - as you might assume - is the structure of legal texts such as those of Wstinc.

Anyway, ReX's eye was caught by this pretty white Cosmos bipinnatus, Garden Cosmos. The name 'Cosmos' means 'well-ordered' and thus pretty. Its visitor is a Honeybee seeking the dregs of Summer with the 'ordered' purpose of supplying her nest with nourishment.
