Santuario de la Virgen de Chilla 2011

El santuario de la Virgen de Chilla se encuentra en un paraje pintoresco, rodeado de robles, y con una formidable vista panorámica. Es una sencilla iglesia, construida en el siglo XVIII, en cuyo interior se narra en paneles de cerámica el milagro de la Virgen.

Es una pequeña ermita que se halla situada en la falda de la sierra de Gredos, junto al macizo central; hasta ella se llega por una carretera vecinal, asfaltada, que parte de Candeleda, a la salida de la población camino de la provincia de Cáceres.

Para llegar hasta allí hay que ascender unos siete kilómetros, serpenteantes casi en su totalidad. Junto a la garganta del mismo nombre, en un lugar, poblado de castaños, fresnos y alisos, se yergue este centro de devoción de la gente del valle del Tiétar. Desde su altura (660 m.) se contempla una bella panorámica de la parte occidental del valle del Tiétar y del Campo Arañuelo.

Cuenta la tradición que un piadoso pastor, al que se le había muerto una cabra, en pleno desconsuelo, por miedo al dueño del hato, invocó a la Virgen y Ésta se le apareció y le premió con la resurrección del animal. El pueblo de Candeleda agradecido erigió la ermita en recuerdo de tan extraordinario momento.
