Khyber Pass, the ultimate big-mountain freeride

            The ultimate big-mountain freeride descent through Whistler Peak's notorious Khyber Pass begins with an alluring out-of-bounds powder field (first tracks, bottom left). The backcountry descent continues down through a tightly treed alpine rainforest (with a hazardous cliff drop on a wrong turn), ultimately arriving at a volcanic rock-canyon floor and the glacier-fed Cheakamus River. 

Black Tusk (2319 m, 7608 ft) on the horizon is the oldest of several small andesitic stratovolcanos formed more than a million years ago, part of a larger chain of volcanic peaks along the Pacific Northwest Coast. Garibaldi Provincial Park, Coast Mountains, British Columbia.
