Tomb of Blanche Parry, died 1590. St. Faith's church, in the village of Bacton, Herefordshire

She was lady in waiting to Queen Elizabeth the 1st for most of the queen's life. More than that, she was appointed Chief Gentlewoman of the Privy Chamber. and could control access to the queen. She also received presents and money on behalf of the queen as well as writing letters for her. She held the very important post of Keeper of the Queen's jewels She became the queen's closest and most loyal confidante.
When Elizabeth was imprisoned in the Tower of London by her evil half sister Mary Tudor ( also known as Bloody Mary ), Blanche accompanied her for the duration of her confinement
Expecting to retire to her birthplace, Blanche commissioned her tomb here in the local church in the village of her birth.., but she didn't retire and stayed in service to the Queen until her death. This tomb is an empty one, for the Queen paid all the funeral expenses to have Blanche buried in St Margaret's church, Westminster, where there is a fine wall memorial.
Situated just by the abbey's North door It was as close to Westminster Abbey as it was possible for a servant to be placed, such was her gratitude for a lifetime's faithful service.
