            Martre des pins (Martes martes), Neuchâtel, Suisse.
Longtemps traquée pour sa fourrure et pour ses poils qui servent encore aujourd’hui à fabriquer les pinceaux d'artistes, mais également pour son statut injustifié de nuisible, ce sont quelques-unes des causes de la régression des populations de martres. Il y a aussi Le déboisement, la fragmentation des massifs forestiers et le phénomène de roadkill, qui contribuent également à la fragilisation de l'espèce. Actuellement une réglementation stricte du piégeage, une gestion efficace des populations, des programmes de réintroduction et des actions de réhabilitation de l'habitat ont permis aux diverses populations de martres de se stabiliser et même de progresser dans certaines régions.
