            View of Mount St. Helens from the Johnston Ridge Visitors Center within the Mount St. Helens National Monument, October 22, 2007.  The volcano had been continuously erupting for just over three years when this photo was taken.  The eruption has produced the lava dome visible in the center of the horseshoe-shaped crater created by the explosive eruption of May 18, 1980.  A small plume of steam and volcanic gas can be seen rising from the lava dome.
