De Waterkrachtcentrale Maurik werd in 1988 gebouwd door de PGEM (overgegaan in Nuon, het huidige Vattenfall) direct ten zuiden van het Stuw- en sluizencomplex Amerongen. De stuw in de Nederrijn bij Amerongen zorgt voor een hoogteverschil van maximaal 4 meter en daar maakt de Waterkrachtcentrale Maurik gebruik van. Deze centrale heeft een vermogen van 10 MW opgewekt door 4 Kaplan waterturbines, ieder gekoppeld aan een generator van 2530 kW. Jaarlijks produceert de centrale gemiddeld 20-24 GWh elektriciteit. Dat is genoeg voor ongeveer 7.000 huishoudens. 

Het stuwcomplex Amerongen maakt deel uit van de stuwcombinatie Hagestein / Amerongen / Driel. Het ontwerpen van deze drie identieke stuwcomplexen werd gestart in 1958 in het kader van verbetering waterhuishouding Noord Nederland en bevaarbaarheid Nederrijn. In 1960 werd als eerste het stuw- en sluizencomplex Hagestein opgeleverd. 1965 kwam het stuw- en sluizencomplex Amerongen gereed. In 1970 werd het stuw- en sluizencomplex Driel als laatste van deze rij stuwen op de Nederrijn opgeleverd. Net als bij de stuw in Amerongen is ook in Hagestein een (kleinere) waterkrachtcentrale van 1,8 MW aanwezig. Deze is echter buiten gebruik sinds 2005. Energie-coöperatie e-Lekstroom heeft voor 2020 een vervangende installatie gepland

The Maurik hydroelectric power station was built in 1988 by the PGEM (transitioned into Nuon, the current Vattenfall) directly south of the Amerongen weir and lock complex. The weir in the Nederrijn near Amerongen creates a height difference of up to 4 meters and the Maurik Hydroelectric Power Station uses this. This plant has a capacity of 10 MW generated by 4 Kaplan water turbines, each coupled to a generator of 2530 kW. The plant produces an average of 20-24 GWh of electricity annually. That is enough for about 7,000 households.

The Amerongen dam complex is part of the Hagestein / Amerongen / Driel dam combination. The design of these three identical weir complexes was started in 1958 in the context of improving the water management of the Northern Netherlands and the navigability of the Lower Rhine. In 1960, the Hagestein weir and lock complex was the first to be completed. In 1965 the weir and lock complex Amerongen was completed. In 1970 the weir and lock complex Driel was the last of this row of weirs on the Lower Rhine completed. As with the weir in Amerongen, a (smaller) hydroelectric power station of 1.8 MW is also present in Hagestein. However, this has been out of use since 2005. Energy cooperative e-Lekstroom has planned a replacement installation for 2020
