Waldfriedhof

The Stuttgart Forest Cemetery was established in 1913, shortly before the outbreak of World War I, based on designs by Stuttgart's city planning director, Albert Pantle. Located in the Stuttgart district of Degerloch, the cemetery is the final resting place for numerous notable figures. Its name reflects its setting amidst the mixed forest of the Degerloch woods.
The cemetery is divided into two sections:
- The older and larger western main section.
- The newer, eastern section known as Waldfriedhof-Viereichenhau.
Spanning 30.7 hectares, it is the largest cemetery in Stuttgart by area and, with its 15,000 burial sites, the third largest in terms of capacity. It is organized into divisions 1-35 (main section) and 50-75 (Viereichenhau).
Facilities on the cemetery grounds include a ceremonial hall, an administrative building, a mortuary, and three memorials dedicated to the fallen of both World Wars. Adjacent to the cemetery is the Dornhaldenfriedhof, established to the east in 1974.
A funicular railway, operational since 1929, connects Südheimer Platz with the cemetery, situated 100 meters higher.

The photo was taken with a historical lens. Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar IQ 1:2.8/50mm. Originally on an old bellows camera, modified for my Sony ILCE-7M2.
I developed the photo in Lightroom, processed it in Color Efex Pro 4 in the Tonal Contrast High Pass setting. Then I moved it to Photoshop and created a new layer with Silver Efex Pro 2 setting High Structure (Hard). Then blend only the luminance (not the black and white) with the original image. Then crop, adjust colours to my liking, frame around it. Ready.
The mood this photo reflects is intentional.
