297/365 The icon returns - a photo on Flickriver

            The icon returns - LNER A3 Pacific class 4-6-2 No 60103 "Flying Scotsman" pauses at Hellifield at dusk to take on water with the late running Railway Touring Company's 1Z87 14:25 Carlisle to London Euston "Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express" on 6 February 2016.

The Flying Scotsman, arguably the most iconic steam locomotive in the world, returned to the main line to haul its first mainline passenger express in over 10 years and is seen here at Hellifield having just run the iconic Midland Route via the Settle-Carlisle after a 20 year absence.  This was its only appearance on the mainline in its black wartime livery, following a 10 year £4.2m restoration project, ahead of its more regular return to the East Coast Mainline in its traditional BR green livery.
