            I went over to the Uppermill 40's Weekend on the Sunday, otherwise named "The Yanks are Back" I believe. I've seen the jeeps and other stuff about before but never been over. It was the Emley Show on our side of the Pennines on Saturday and I'd been there all afternoon after work. I found out on Sunday morning that there was a Lancaster flypast scheduled for 1.10pm but brought forward due to the weather forecast. Whilst looking in to it I realised that I'd missed the Lancaster, Hurricane and Spitfire the day before! I was having a coffee in Slawit and it was only a ten minute drive so I shot up Standedge and waited. Sure enough at 10.45 the Lancaster did a couple of laps of Saddleworth for us.I only had a 300mm lens with me but I managed. The big parade in Uppermill was at 12.00 so I got parked and walked in, it was a bit of a free for all with positions that had been held for an hour suddenly swamped at the last minute. As I like to do I played a different game and got on the floor, in the road far enough out to shoot under all of the obstructing bodies. There were official (I think!) photographers stood in the middle of the road blocking a lot of people from getting clear shots, they really spoilt it for many other photographers but they had a job to do. I felt that there was so many photographers sticking their cameras in peoples faces, although most enjoyed the attention paid to their 40's look, that I wasn't comfortable with it. Although only a few miles from home, I only saw a few faces that I knew, I was really surprised as I'm the sort who usually knows a lot of people, it goes with the job really. There was a big event on our side of the hill though, the Huddersfield food and drink festival is big and a lot of locals from the Colne Valley were at that. All in all I was happy with what I got and will be uploading just over 200 shots I guess...eventually! A big and well organised event, a credit to the organisers really. I'm not sure about the school as a venue though, it was a bit spread out, somewhere for everything but all around the school grounds so some parts were a bit cut off.
