Sheung Shui Hong Kong China 3rd August 1981

            We took an evening train from Hung Hom on the British Section of the Kowloon-Canton Railway into the New Territories to Sheung Shui - the last station before the Chinese border. 

Our train was hauled, nose first, by EMD G26 C-C 2250hp diesel number 55, built in the mid-1970s, and here she is departing Sheung Shui station over the wooden level crossing. 

It will surprise no-one to learn that this station and view have changed out of recognition not to mention that the diesels have been replaced by modern electric motive power. The station is still open but the KCR is now part of the MRT system known as East Rail. One of these locomotives, number 51, has been preserved at the Hong Kong Railway Museum in Tai Po.
