Fastest Interurban

Met zingende tractiemotoren zoeft motorwagen 160 van de voormalige Chicago North Shore and Milwaukee Railroad over de dubbelsporige vrije baan. De Electroliners van de North Shore Line bereikten tussen Dempster Street en North Chicago Junction in de normale dienst een snelheid van 90 mph. Dat is maar liefst 140 km per uur! De North Shore stond niet voor niets bekend als "America's fastest interurban".

De afgebeelde motorwagen 160 uit 1915 was niet geschikt voor die hoogste dienstsnelheid. Desondanks konden met deze door de J. G. Brill Company in Philadelphia gebouwde motorwagen ook hoge snelheden behaald worden. Deze motorwagen deed bijna vijftig jaar dienst tussen Chicago en Milwaukee. Tegenwoordig is het fraaie rijtuig te bewonderen op de museumlijn van het Illinois Railway Museum bij het plaatsje Union.
