Castle Point Lighthouse - a photo on Flickriver

Castle Point Lighthouse

            Castle Point Lighthouse is near the village of Castlepoint in the Wellington Region of the North Island of New Zealand. 
The lighthouse was made from cast iron in a Wellington factory and brought by boat to the beach settlement, where horses transported it up to the reef for assembly. The lens came from France, and the lighting gear from Scotland. 
In 1988 the light station was automated and the last keeper was withdrawn.
Castle Point lighthouse is one of only two lighthouses in New Zealand that are still fitted with the original lens.
