The Three Bridges Over Crooked River

            Looking at the 3 bridges that cross this deep impediment to easy travel.  

First looking back at the gray Railroad bridge shown yesterday.  

Next is the Crooked River High Bridge  (green) was completed in 1926 and is 295 feet above the canyon floor.  This bridge is 464 feet long. It was the motor vehicle bridge over the Crooked River on US 97 from 1926 to 2000 when it was replaced. Today, this bridge is open to pedestrians and you can walk across it to take pictures and to marvel at the river far below.

The third bridge (red) is the bridge that replaced the Crooked River High Bridge. This bridge is called the Rex T. Barber Veterans Memorial Bridge.  It was built in 2000 to accommodate heavy traffic on US 97.  It's wider than the other two bridges and was an excellent replacement for its predecessor. It's 535 feet long and it is 300 feet above the canyon floor.

Not often that one sees 3 bridges not in a city so close together.
