Monarch Butterfly Clusters – 2

            Migrating Monarch butterflies in Santa Cruz, California. It is too cold and there aren't enough flowers around, so the butterflies mostly cluster and rest on suitable trees until the temperature gets warm enough for them to find flowers or milkweed tree leaves to feed on. This is a sight to behold!

It is really amazing that these delicate creatures end up flying thousands of miles every year, and it is a testament to life – somehow, life finds a way to survive.

It is also a disgrace that their population has dwindled by over 80% in the past decade. Maybe the State of California should create a fund to save the Monarchs by carving out a slice from the absurdly massive tax money it collects (13.5% state tax, 10% sales tax, various property and vehicle taxes, and assorted county and local taxes.)
