0811 Harrogate Royal Hall (63)

            Part of a series tracking the lavish restoration of the Grade II* listed Royal Hall in Harrogate, now completed and up and running again. The Mayors box! Designed by Frank Matcham and Robert J Beale, opened as the Kursaal 1903. The name was changed to Royal Hall during WW1, a projection booth was added prior to 1920 to enable films to be screened. Serious flaws were found around the turn of the C20th and demolition was a distinct possibility. Happily the grade 2* listed building was fully restored and reopened 2008.
