Emperor eating four-spotted chaser

Another extraordinary hunter-becomes-the-hunted shot.

I went to Westhay Moor NNR today with Max Thompson Photography, and we were on the Mire trying to shoot the very skittish dragonflies. I was just framing up a gorgeous teneral black-tailed skimmer when Max called from 50 yards away and I had to decide whether to get my shot first, or go and see what Max had found. There was a certain urgency in his voice so I ran straight over - and I'm so glad I did. He'd seen a male emperor dragonfly bringing down a four-spotted chaser, and it was now chomping away at its catch in in the grass.

The emperor is on the right; on the left is the four-spot, by now headless and lacking part of its thorax too.
