Nomada sp. m - a photo on Flickriver

Nomada sp. m

            I watched this Nomada bee climb a leaf, clamp its jaws onto the tip, then briefly preen its legs before settling into this amazing horizontal roosting position. There's no cheeky tilting of the camera, it really was horizontal! This was in the middle of the afternoon, perhaps in response to the chilly breeze we felt just before a spell of rain.

I'm not certain of the ID to species. It's a male, we know that much. I thought it could be Nomada leucophthalma, the Early Nomad Bee, but the advice from the Facebook group is N. flava or N. ruficornis. Ah well, "sp." it will have to be.
