A Journey into the Mist - a photo on Flickriver

Anyone who has travelled by Indian Railways will tell you of this - the ubiquitous chai and kaapi 'waalas' and their cacophonous "chai, chai, kaupi, kaupi", the ever haranguing hawkers and tramps both within the compartment and on the station platforms, the cramped berths with rambunctious kids, the claustrophobic toilets stinking to high heaven and the ever-pervading smell of iron that gets into your hair and nails. But to top it all, the trains run promptly as per the schedule of Indian Stretchable Time, on rails and bridges left as a legacy by the British, yet all are considered snafu. But, you can never take away the nostalgia that comes with travelling by rail. And if you just close your eyes and reminisce R L Stevenson's 'From A Railway Carriage', no one is going to hold you in contempt!
