            We were lucky to win 2 permits to the Wave in the walk-in lottery on the previous day. Otherwise, my wife would not have taken this shot. A German couple were at the lottery three days in a row and couldn't win any permit despite the BLM rangers gave them better odds for each lottery that they didn't win. They left in disappointment and I felt bad for them. If you break the rule and head over to the Wave without a permit, you could be slapped with a $1000 fine if the rangers catch you. Yes, I saw them patrol near the trail head to look for violators.
