Paphiopedilum victoria-mariae (aka "lady slipper")

            This lovely and unusual orchid was named after princess Mary of Teck, who became queen after her husband, Prince George (King George V), ascended the throne in 1910. She was the grandmother of Queen Elizabeth II.

This plant produces one bloom at a time but can stay in bloom for months on end. Large specimens have been known to stay in bloom for over a year on a single spike.
